Among
the BGS trainees are from left, Alexander Muldovansky (BGS-Austria),
Claudia Lotter (BGS-Austria), Sam Mathai (BGS-India), Marcelo
Sia (Remax-Philippines), Wesam Daza (Echonet FCS-Libya), Sharif
(Egypt), Dusan Krmpotic (Elatec-Slovenia), Gabby Miras (Remax-Philippines),
and Armando Piedra (BGS-Austria).
As a result of the BGS - Remax Distributorship Agreement, RII
recently attended a technical training on a payment system held
at the BGS Headquarters in Vienna, Austria.
Present at the training were REMAX Business Solutions Senior
Consultant Gabby Miras and REMAX Professional Services Manager
Marcelo Sia. Other trainees present were partners of BGS from
other countries such as Slovenia, Libya, Egypt and India.
The DUET Training 2002 was a hands-on training on the smartcard-based
payment software Version 4.6. Among the topics discussed were
the software's systems requirements, the relationship between
its entities, its security features, the software's architecture
and its users.
DUET or Direct Universal Electronic Transactions, is a versatile
instrument to develop smartcard-based payment systems. DUET
system technology makes it possible to execute payment transactions
in on or offline mode without requiring authentication from
a third party and incorporates state-of-the-art technologies
in the field of smart-card solutions.
According to Mr. Miras, the introduction of the DUET System
in the Philippines is an appropriate solution to the current
economic situation. "70-75% of an account holder's cash goes
into his / her pocket most of the time. This creates a blind
spot in the banking business. DUET's vision is to enable the
account holder to keep their money in the bank and at the same
time maintain his/ her purchasing power through its highly secured
and cost effective system. In this way, the money kept in the
bank will be properly utilized to enable the bank to provide
better generation of interest and better loans helping in keeping
our economy alive."
The DUET System and REMAX are set to initially tap both commercial
and rural banks in the country. Indeed, it would be beneficial
for REMAX and BGS to venture into this kind of endeavor as this
product does not only cater to the high-end market but it also
helps in empowering the small to medium size markets. |

The advent of April saw the co-sponsorship
and participation of REMAX International, Inc. in the 1st I.T.
Congress of the Philippine Association of Medical Healthcare
Systems (PAMHS). This event was held last April 12-13, 1999
at the Dusit Hotel Nikko in Makati City. Being the very first
information technology-related congress of the PAMHS, the technological
possibilities for the healthcare industry were explored, especially
in creating and establishing a nationwide database of accessible
medical data utilizing information technology.
borAs
a co-sponsor of the event, Remax was the only I.T. company that
presented speakers on smart card applications in healthcare
and provided the delegates' smart card ID badges. The ID badges
were more than physical identification media; it was part of
a system that tracked the attendance of the delegates to the
various presentation sessions. Appreciation souvenirs were given
to delegates upon attendance of a required number of presentations.
The event's ID system demonstrated the capability of smart cards
to contain extensive information and also maintain the information
in its most current status without necessarily depending on
the host application. As highlighted by the speakers' presentation
on existing healthcare applications in other countries, smart
cards render more efficient delivery of healthcare services
by its inherent capability to store sizable, secure, and current
data within the card itself. Heidi de Koning, Gemplus (Asia
Pacific) Marketing Manager for Loyalty, and Giri Khatod, Verifone
(Asia Pacific) Regional Manager, graced the event and, at the
same time, were the guest speakers during the luncheon hosted
by Remax.
Remax also exhibited other products in their booth such as
Optika for document imaging, Storagetek for data storage, and
Verifone for smart card devices.
PAMHS is an association of managed healthcare organizations
and healthcare providers aimed at promoting the growth of managed
healthcare systems in the Philippines. Its collective management
is composed of eight major health maintenance organizations
(HMOs), the Philippine Hospitals Association (PHA), the Association
of Health Maintenance Organizations in the Philippines, Inc.
(AHMOPI), various medical schools and associations of doctors.
The first healthcare IT congress was attended by 300 delegates
representing the management and IT officers of HMOs and Hospitals.
